Title

AN ACT CONCERNING ORPHANS’ COURT JUDGES - COMPENSATION for the purpose of setting the amount of annual compensation for the Associate Judges and Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court for Prince George’s County, as prescribed by State law; and generally relating to the compensation of Orphans’ Court Judges.

Background:

In 2023, via Senate Bill 411, the Maryland General Assembly amended State law to provide that Judges on the Orphans’ Court for Prince George’s County receive annual compensation as determined by the County Executive and County Council. As the Judges are set to commence a new term following the November 3, 2026 general election, and the funds have been appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, it is appropriate to set the compensation rates for the Associate Judges and Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court. This bill sets the compensation at $80,000 per year for Associate Judges and $85,000 per year for the Chief Judge.
