Proposed letter to the Honorable Brandon D. Jackson, Chair, Prince George’s County Board of Education, transmitting the Fiscal Year 2026 Operating Budget.
Background
The Prince George’s County Council approved the Board of Education’s FY 2026 Operating Budget of $2,950,635,400 to support Prince George’s County Public Schools. The County’s contribution meets the minimum local share requirement set by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation and totals $969,590,100. The overall approved budget is $151,797,400 above the current fiscal year’s approved operating budget. This change is primarily due to a 2025 differential, cost-of-living adjustments, step increases for labor contracts, and the rollover of mid-year changes.
Attachment 1 to this letter provides a summary of the County Council’s approved FY 2026 Operating Budget revenue, by source, and expenditure allocations, by major category.
The Council has allocated approximately 61% of the County’s approved FY 2026 General Fund budget to the Board of Education to support the shared goal of providing a world-class environment for student learning in Prince George’s County public schools.
Consequently, the Council awaits the Board of Education’s reconciliation of the approved budget amount that will reflect the Board of Education’s priorities.
