Title

AN ACT CONCERNING EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION FEES for the purpose of amending legislation to increase emergency transportation fees to adjust for inflation and increased cost of operations in two phases.

Background

The proposed amendments to this legislation increase both the base rates and per mileage rates for the levels of emergency transportation services. Base rates have not been adjusted since 2008 and per mileage rates since 2021.  The proposed adjustment aligns the emergency transportation fees for services rendered by the Fire/EMS Department with other fire departments in the region. The increase in fees will not impact County residents, as the Fire/EMS Department does not balance bill for the costs not covered by insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. Uninsured residents are not billed for services, as the Fire/EMS Department will not impose additional financial hardship as a result of emergency ambulance transport.
