Title
Proposed Letter of Support for WSSC’s Federal Funding Application for the Western Branch Sewer Rehabilitation Project.
Background
WSSC has requested a letter of support for the Commission’s application for a federal earmark for the Western Branch Sewer Rehabilitation project. The deadline for the letter to be included in the application is Friday, May 10, 2024.
This project is located in the District Heights / Forestville area and serves 4,190 residential customers and 127 commercial customers within a designated Environment Justice Area (EJA). The total project cost is $8.2 million in FY2025. This project is included in the FY 2025 CIP as part of Project S-000170.09 Trunk Sewer Reconstruction Program and would otherwise be funded by WSSC bonds.
This project involves the rehabilitation and replacement of approximately 12,148 LF (2.30 miles) of sewer mains, sixteen (16) manholes, 60 LF of sewer house connections, and sewer services reconnections. The project will also entail relocating, protecting, and covering the exposed sewer mains and manholes and constructing streambank stabilization to prevent the severe stream erosion that has occurred from happening in the future. As with all projects located within Environmentally sensitive areas, WSSC Water must abide by all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations, which require specialized construction access roads that will minimize the disturbance to the woodlands and vegetation.
