A Resolution approving the re-certification and continuation of the Prince George’s County Arts and Entertainment District
Background
The County Council adopted CR-83-2001 on November 19, 2001 to establish the Prince George’s County Arts and Entertainment District. The District was established in accordance with the State of Maryland’s 2001 Arts and Entertainment District legislation. The State’s Arts and Entertainment District Program enables local jurisdictions – municipalities, counties or a combination to designate special districts within their borders and apply for benefits provided by the law.
The benefit of an Arts and Entertainment District include: property tax credits for renovation of certain buildings that create live-work space for artists and/or space for arts and entertainment enterprise, an income tax subtraction from income derived from artistic work sold by "qualified residing artists", exemption from the admission and amusement tax levied by an "arts and entertainment enterprise or qualified residing artist" in a district, and financial assistance from the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Fund.
The designation period for an Arts and Entertainment District is 10 years. This resolution approves the re-certification and continuation of the County Arts and Entertainment District.
