Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING TEMPORARY MORATORIUM ON HYPERSCALE DATA CENTER OPERATION for the purpose of establishing a two (2) year moratorium on the operation of hyperscale qualified data centers.

Background

This resolution extends a temporary pause on permits for the construction of data centers in Prince George’s County as well as preliminary plans of subdivision which propose data centers in Prince George's County while the Council considers comprehensive legislation on the zoning, siting, and construction of new data centers. This temporary pause is established in response to public concern and the time necessary to fully consider the recommendations of the County’s Qualified Data Center Task Force, which was formed to receive broad-based input on benefits and effects of constructing and operating data centers in the County and provide recommendations for comprehensive legislation. In light of anticipated Code changes regarding the zoning and building of data centers, this resolution pauses the acceptance, review and approval of building and grading permits for proposed data centers as well as preliminary plans of subdivision which propose qualified data centers among its proposed uses for two (2) years.
