Title

Proposed letter to the Honorable Branndon D. Jackson, Chair, Prince George’s County Board of Education, transmitting the Fiscal Year 2027 Operating Budget.

Background

The Prince George’s County Council approved the Board of Education’s FY 2027 Operating Budget of $2,971,479,900 to support Prince George’s County Public Schools. The County’s contribution meets the minimum local share requirement set by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation and totals $968,737,900. The overall approved budget is $20,844,500 above the current fiscal year’s  approved operating budget. This change is primarily due to cost-of-living adjustments, step increases tied to labor agreements, reduced projected salary lapses as the primary drivers, and the rollover of mid-year changes.

Attachment 1 to this letter provides a summary of the County Council’s approved FY 2027 Operating Budget revenue, by source, and expenditure allocations, by major category.

The Council continues to allocate approximately 60% of the County’s approved FY 2027 General Fund budget to the Board of Education to support the shared goal of providing a world-class environment for student learning in Prince George’s County public schools.

Consequently, the Council awaits the Board of Education’s reconciliation of the approved budget amount that will reflect the Board of Education’s priorities.
