Title

AN ACT CONCERNING PARKING FINES AND PENALTIES for the purpose of increasing and adding fines and penalties for violating certain parking laws, including laws regarding standing or parking at bus stops, unregistered vehicles and trailers, expired registration stickers; reserved parking spaces, meter spaces, damaging parking meters, and public parking facilities; and authorizing immobilization and/or impoundments without prior notice to owners of vehicles with five or more unpaid traffic and/or parking violations.

 

Background

This bill is regarding the increase of civil penalties for parking violations of the Prince George's County Code. Violations for standing or parking at bus stops are increased from $20 to $50; violations for parking in reserved parking spaces is increased from $25 to $35; violations for unregistered vehicles and trailers are increased from $60 to $100; violations for parking in reserved parking spaces are increased from $25 to $35; violations for noncompliance with rules for parking in meter spaces are increased from $25 to $35; violations for damaging parking meters are increased from $25 to $100; public parking facility violations are increased from $20 to $35; violations for parking at public parking facilities for a period longer than twenty-four hours is increased from $20 to $50. This bill also adds fines for having five or more outstanding or otherwise unsettled parking violations in an amount of $1,500, parking in spaces reserved for charging electric vehicles in an amount of $100, and for parking motor vehicles and trailers displaying expired registration stickers in an amount of $100.
