Background
Pursuant to Chapter 594 of the 2005 Laws of Maryland the public safety surcharge is required to be adjusted each fiscal year for inflation pursuant to the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, during the period of April 2007 compared to April 2006, shows an inflation rate of 2.6 and results in an increase of $54 above the Fiscal Year 2007 public safety surcharge of $2,070 for permits issued inside the Developed Tier and an increase of $161 above the Fiscal Year 2007 public safety surcharge of $6,210 for permits issued for all other buildings. For Fiscal Year 2008, the public safety surcharge shall be $2,124 for permits issued for construction located inside the Developed Tier and $6,371 for all other buildings, be and the same is hereby approved, effective July 1, 2007.
