Title

AN ACT CONCERNING CODE OF ETHICS for the purpose of amending the Prince George’s County Code of Ethics to prohibit a former Council Member’s compensated representation in certain matters in which they participated as a Council Member; and generally relating to the Prince George’s County Code of Ethics.

Background

This proposed legislation would change the Prince George's County Code of Ethics by requiring current and former County Council members to abstain from participation in any lawsuits against The Prince George's County Government. Council Members, former Council Members who have ended their term may not sue or participate in lawsuits in Prince George's County after a period of three years after leaving a Council seat to represent clients or litigants in matters that come before the County Council. In addition, if a County Council law maker took a vote during their tenure in the Prince George's County Council, they are prohibited from working on that project, assisting or representing another party for compensation for the life of the project.
