Background
Central Gateway Community Development Corporation has applied for funding from the Community Legacy Program in the amount of $800,000 to reverse decline and disinvestment in a community legacy area and combat community deterioration through rehabilitation, renovation of commercial property thereby and promoting neighborhood revitalization and enhancement to the community. Central Gateway Community Development Corporation community legacy plan has as its focus the rehabilitation and renovation of the Kingdom Square Shopping Center, formerly known as Hampton Mall, which is a commercial property bordering the Capital Beltway in Capitol Heights to improve and restore the visual appeal and condition of Central Avenue and the surrounding community of Capitol Heights. The State of Maryland requires a resolution by the County Council for each Community Legacy Program application in unincorporated areas.
