Title A Resolution concerning the designation of the Willow Oak Tree (Quercus phellos) as the Official Tree of Prince George’s County. Background On July 1, 2008 the Prince George’s County Council adopted Council Resolution (CR) 27-2008, a resolution with the purpose of repealing the designation of the Bradford Pear Tree (calleryrana Bradford) as the official tree of Prince George’s County. In addition, CR-27-2008 established a workgroup of interested stakeholders, including County and Planning Department staff, to review and make a recommendation to the County Executive and County Council for designation of an official County Tree. The Official Tree Work Group issued its report in April 2009 to the County Council and County Executive and recommended that the Willow Oak Tree (Quercus phellos) be designated as the official tree of Prince George’s County.
