Background
The approved FY 2008 Planning Department Work Program requires the initiation of a Port Towns Area Sector Plan and a concurrent sectional map amendment (SMA). The new sector plan will establish goals, policies and strategies to guide the future growth and development of the Port Towns area.
The new sector plan will amend portions of the 1994 Approved Hyattsville and Vicinity Master Plan (Planning Area 68), the 1994 Approved Bladensburg, New Carrollton and Vicinity Master Plan (Planning Area 69), and the 2001 Approved Anacostia Trails Heritage Area Management Plan, the 2007 Approved Bladensburg Town Center Sector Plan and the 2002 Prince George’s County Approved General Plan that will establish goals, policies and strategies to guide the future growth and development of the Port Towns area. The planning and zoning recommendations will provide guidance for future development activity appropriate for the General Plan designated Developed tier, the designated Annapolis Road Corridor and the Port Towns designated Regional Center. This resolution initiates the Port Towns Area Sector Plan and SMA.
