A RESOLUTION CONCERNING SOCIAL HOUSING TASK FORCE for the purpose of establishing the Social Housing Task Force; requiring the Social Housing Task Force to study alternative housing financing and ownership models; developing ideas for implementing their use in Prince George’s County; transmitting a report of findings and recommendations to the Prince George’s County Council and the County Executive; setting forth the procedures for the selection and appointment of members; assigning duties and responsibilities; setting forth provisions for administrative support of the task force; and setting a time for the completion of work and termination of the temporary task force.

Background Necessitating Legislation:
Market-rate housing is increasingly becoming more expensive-which is preventing more and more members of our community from having stable housing. Social housing provides a mixture of affordable housing options-with the goal of mixing income groups, age demographics, etc.
This taskforce would help to research and propose best practices to fund and maintain social housing programs for the County. Topics should include:
- Information about cost of setting up local social housing programs
- Gaps in the County’s affordable housing market
- Potential sources of funding, within County budget
Included on the taskforce we’d like to see organizations like:
- LISC
- PG County Housing Authority
- HIPP
