Title

AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING STANDARDS FOR SPECIFIC SIGN TYPES for the purpose of amending the Height (maximum) of Sign (from base to top) for certain signs within the Industrial, Employment and Industrial/ Employment Planned Development (IE-PD) Zones of Prince George’s County.

Background

The Zoning Ordinance establishes strict rules for the size (height) of building-mounted signs in the Industrial, Employment (IE), and Industrial/Employment Planned Development (IE-PD) zones to reduce sign pollution.

Currently, the height limit for these signs is set at 18 inches, which was based on the previous regulations for the Urban Light Industrial (U-L-I) Zone. This 18-inch limit is particularly stringent for buildings that do not directly face a street. To balance the goal of minimizing sign pollution in light industrial zones with the need for increased visibility, it is proposed that the height limit be increased to 42 inches.
