Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE JONES-SHERIDAN HOUSE AND THE HIERLING HOUSE for the purpose of designating the Jones-Sheridan House (Documented Property 68-010-79) and the Hierling House (Documented Property 68-010-93) as Prince George’s County Historic Sites.

Background

This Resolution will approve the designation of the Jones-Sheridan House and Hierling House, located respectively in Hyattsville, as Prince George’s County Historic Sites. In accordance with Subtitle 29 of the County Code, this approval is the final step in the Historic Site Designation process authorized by the Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code. The properties were recommended for designation as historic sites by the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission in December of 2020; the County Council sitting as the District Council held a Joint Public Hearing with the Prince George’s Planning Board of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in February 2021; and the Council met on May 11, 2021, to discuss the record of public hearing testimony and the Planning Board’s April 2021 recommendation of approval. By unanimous vote of the Committee, the Council directed that this Resolution of Approval be prepared in anticipation of final action by the District Council as to the two proposed Historic Site Designations.
