Background
The approved FY 2007 Planning Department Work Program requires the initiation of a Landover Mall and Vicinity Sector Plan and Sectional Map Amendment. The project has been renamed as the Landover Gateway Sector Plan and Sectional Map Amendment because Landover Mall has been demolished with the exception of the Sears store. The new sector plan will establish goals, policies and strategies to guide the future growth of the Landover Gateway area.
The planning and zoning recommendations will attract quality economic development, identify needed transportation and pedestrian improvements, and ensure efficient use of existing infrastructure and new investments in and around the former Landover Mall site and vicinity. In so doing, the Plan will implement the 2002 General Plan’s recommendation for this area to be a Community Center in the Developed Tier.
