Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING CAR FREE DAY for the purpose of expressing the County Council’s support for declaring September 22, 2016 as Car Free Day in Prince George’s County as part of international mobility week in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.

Background

On July 20, 2016, the Transportation Planning Board approved a proclamation proclaiming September 22, 2016 as Car Free Day in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area and encouraged Transportation Planning Board member jurisdictions to adopt similar resolutions. The Car Free Day encourages Washington, D.C. metropolitan area residents to use alternative forms of transportation, including public transit, bicycling, walking and “car lite” methods, such as teleworking and carpools.  The Prince George’s County Council is committed to promoting improved air quality, reduced traffic congestion, conservation of energy and the use of transportation alternatives in the County and Region and supports and proclaims September 22, 2016 as Car Free Day in Prince George's County.
