Title

AN ACT CONCERNING LAND BANK AUTHORITY OF PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY for the purpose of amending the Prince George’s County Code to establish the Land Bank Authority of Prince George’s County in accordance with the Annotated Maryland Code to acquire, manage, maintain, and repurpose blighted, abandoned, and distressed properties in Prince George’s County and have other powers and authority conferred by Maryland law upon land banks generally.

Background

This proposed legislation would establish the Land Bank Authority of Prince George's County in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland to acquire, manage, maintain, and repurpose blighted, abandoned, and distressed properties in Prince George's County. Often times businesses and residents leave abandoned property thus eroding beautification which has a detrimental effect on property values. Prince George's County is in a prime position to better utilize and coordinate existing tools to address vacant, abandoned, and tax delinquent properties in a more equitable, effective and efficient manner and to continue exploring how a land bank could also be leveraged to support local affordable housing goals.
