A RESOLUTION CONCERNING A MORATORIUM ON UTILITY PRICE INCREASES for the purpose of requesting the Maryland Public Service Commission to impose a three-month moratorium on utility price increases for low-and moderate-income households, certain senior households, and households with persons with certain medical conditions in Prince George’s County; to evaluate the cause of current utility rate increases for residents of Prince George’s County, with special attention on the role of data centers in neighboring communities, as well as the impact of last winter on utility increases; requesting additional customer protections; and generally regarding utility rate increases in Prince George’s County.

As constituents bear with the rising cost of living, utility costs in the county are uniquely high.
In fact, it’s reported that Prince Georgians are spending around $300 each month on electricity (which is 11% higher than the national average for utility costs).
As utility providers provide more service to the local grid, those costs are projected to increase as supply costs increase.
In 2026, the County Council also passed a resolution approving requesting an investigation into the abnormally high utility costs.
