Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING IMPROVING POLICE AND DRIVER INTERACTIONS DURING TRAFFIC STOPS for the purpose of creating a driver handbook with a description of law enforcement procedures during traffic stops and actions drivers and passengers should take during traffic stops, including appropriate interactions with law enforcement officials.

Background

Prince George's County local police departments in 2023 had an estimated 33,443 traffic stops. These traffic stops can often be an intense and stressful situation for both the driver and law enforcement officials. This resolution aims to create a driver handbook which explains law enforcement procedures to drivers in order to create positive and appropriate interactions with law enforcement officials. This handbook would be created by the Office of Integrity, Compliance, and Police Accountability in collaboration with the Police Accountability Board.
