Title

AN ACT CONCERNING DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES BY LANDLORDS for the purpose of enhancing tenant protections under consumer protection laws in response to widespread issues facing tenants from landlord’s unfair or deceptive practices.

Background:

The bill's purpose is to enhance renter protections under consumer protection laws in response to widespread issues faced by tenants. Renters have encountered unfair or deceptive practices from corporate and private landlords, including substandard living conditions, misleading advertising of amenities, failure to maintain essential services, unwarranted fees, and persistent housing violations. Strengthening these safeguards will help ensure fair treatment and accountability in rental housing.
