Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING IMPROVING PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY’S LITERACY for the purpose of establishing the Prince George’s County Literacy Commission (“the Commission”) to develop strategic initiatives to assess, address, and improve literacy rates among residents in Prince George’s County.

Background

Prince George's County is establishing the Literacy Commission to tackle the persistent literacy challenge that affects both youth and adults. The need for a targeted intervention is an urgent concern to help address the literacy issues within the County. Literacy gaps within the County limit employment opportunities, economic mobility, and disproportionately affects disadvantage communities. The Commission will be composed of educators, community leaders, and nonprofit partners to tackle the issue of literacy within the County. The Commission shall make recommendations to the Prince George's County Board of Education and County Council on effective policies, initiatives, and remedies.
