Title
A RESOLUTION CONCERNING PUBLIC HEALTH IMPACT INVESTIGATION for the purpose of directing the Prince George’s County Department of Health to conduct a study of the public health impact of fast food, liquor and tobacco store locations and distribution on neighborhoods in Prince George’s County.
Background
This proposed legislation will require a study of the public health sector. It will reduce commercial crime by strengthening safety standards, investing in the community by making fast food stores, liquor and tobacco stores accountable for the health, sanitation and safety and the welfare of the citizens of Prince George's County. The intent is to have reporting mechanisms in place. The Prince George's County Government is committed to ensuring that all fast foods, tobacco, and liquor establishments provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for its residents. Concerns regarding crime, safety, trash and sanitation at certain locations are actively working with store owners, law enforcement and community partners to address these issues. Through increased inspections, enhanced security measures and stricter enforcement of health and safety regulations, this legislation will hold businesses accountable while fostering a secure shopping experience. In addition, this legislation will implement proactive solutions, including better waste management practices and community engagement initiatives. The purpose is to create a healthier, safer and more vibrant shopping environment for all residents. Lastly, it does not penalize the small grocery establishments who are located in food deserts.
