Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE SMITH-ISRAELSON HOUSE for the purpose of designating the Smith-Israelson House (Documented Property 68-074-03) as a Prince George’s County historic site.

Background

This Resolution will approve the designation of the Smith-Israelson House, located at 3215 Perry Street in Mount Rainier, Maryland, as a Prince George’s County Historic Site. In accordance with Subtitle 29 of the County Code, this approval is the final step in the Historic Site Designation process authorized by the Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code. The property was recommended for designation as an historic site by the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission in September of 2021; the County Council sitting as the District Council held a Joint Public Hearing with the Prince George’s Planning Board of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in January 2022; and the Council met on March 17, 2022, to discuss the record of public hearing testimony and the Planning Board’s February 2022 recommendation of approval. By unanimous vote of the Committee, the Council directed that this Resolution of Approval be prepared in anticipation of final action by the District Council as to the proposed Historic Site Designation.
