Title

AN ACT CONCERNING FAIR HOUSING for the purpose of establishing Prince George’s County’s Policy of ensuring equal opportunity and eliminating discrimination in all housing accommodations.

Background

Annapolis recently passed an ordinance that revised the Annapolis Fair Housing Code (Ordinance: O-1-19) thereby prohibiting landlords, property managers and real estate agents from questioning potential renters or buyers about their immigration and/or their citizenship status.

The new Prince George's County law provides protections against additional types of illegal discrimination in housing:  1) asking for citizenship status; 2) requiring proof of immigration or citizenship status; and 3) requiring a screening process that forces the buyer to reveal citizenship status without providing a reasonable alternative option.
