Title: A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE BOWIE-MITCHELLVILLE AND VICINITY SECTIONAL MAP AMENDMENT for the purpose of initiating, pursuant to Part 27-3 of the Zoning Ordinance of Prince George’s County, a new Sectional Map Amendment to comprehensively rezone land in order to implement the approved land use and development policies approved by the District Council in the 2022 Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan, an area consisting of Planning Areas 71A (Bowie and Vicinity), 71B (City of Bowie), 74A (Mitchellville and Vicinity), and 74B (Collington and Vicinity), and generally defined by the Patuxent Research Refuge to the north, MD 193 (Enterprise Road/Watkins Park Drive) to the west, Leeland Road/Queen Anne Road to the south, and the Patuxent River to the east, including the entire City of Bowie and the portions of the unincorporated communities of Mitchellville and Collington, pursuant to Part 27-3 of the Zoning Ordinance.

Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE BOWIE-MITCHELLVILLE AND VICINITY SECTIONAL MAP AMENDMENT for the purpose of initiating, pursuant to Part 27-3 of the Zoning Ordinance of Prince George’s County, a new Sectional Map Amendment to comprehensively rezone land in order to implement the approved land use and development policies approved by the District Council in the 2022 Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan, an area consisting of Planning Areas 71A (Bowie and Vicinity), 71B (City of Bowie), 74A (Mitchellville and Vicinity), and 74B (Collington and Vicinity), and generally defined by the Patuxent Research Refuge to the north, MD 193 (Enterprise Road/Watkins Park Drive) to the west, Leeland Road/Queen Anne Road to the south, and the Patuxent River to the east, including the entire City of Bowie and the portions of the unincorporated communities of Mitchellville and Collington, pursuant to Part 27-3 of the Zoning Ordinance.

 

Background

Pursuant to Section 27-3503 of the Zoning Ordinance, this Resolution will authorize and direct the Planning Board of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission to initiate a new Sectional Map Amendment (“SMA”) for the Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity plan area. Pursuant to Part 27-3 of the local zoning laws, the purpose of this SMA is to comprehensively rezone land within Prince George's County subject to an applicable area master plan, specifically, the 2022 Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan that was approved by the District Council on March 8, 2022, via adoption of Council Resolution CR-018-2022.
