Title

A RESOLUTION CONCERNING PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN for the purpose of adopting an updated County-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to remain eligible for Federal mitigation assistance for natural disasters.

Background

The adoption of the Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) will make Prince George’s County eligible for federal assistance for natural hazards.  The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (Section 44 CFR Part 201) requires the County to update and adopt a mitigation plan every five years to be eligible for grants to implement mitigation projects.

Pursuant to the regulations implementing the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, states and local governments must have an approved and adopted Hazard Mitigation Plan to maintain eligibility for pre and post disaster Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) funding. State and Local governments must adopt the plan and submit the adopted resolution to FEMA to receive the final approval.
