Title

AN ACT CONCERNING HOTEL AND MOTEL TAX for the purpose of designating a portion of the County's revenue from the imposition of the hotel and motel tax be reserved for appropriation to the Prince George's Conference and Visitors Bureau.

Background

The Council enacted CB-17-1993 on May 25, 1993 that reserved 20% of the revenue from the hotel and motel tax to the Prince George's Conference and Visitors Bureau to promote travel to the County.  CB-5-2000 repealed the requirement that a portion of the County's revenue from the hotel and motel tax be reserved for appropriation to the Prince George's Conference and Visitors Bureau.  In FY 2000, the total budgeted revenues for the hotel/motel tax was $3.9 million and the budgeted allocation for the Conference and Visitors Bureau was $390,000.  The proposed legislation designates at least 5% of the revenue from the hotel/motel tax to the Conference and Visitors Bureau.
