A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE MARYLAND-NATIONAL CAPITAL PARK AND PLANNING COMMISSION for the purpose of approving the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission plan to acquire land for development of a Largo Headquarters to house departments and administrative offices of the Commission; to express the intent of the County Council to approve the appropriation of additional funds for said land acquisition and development of the project; and to declare that a public hearing will be conducted on amendments to the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 approved Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission budget.
Background
On October 18, 2022, the Chairman of the Prince George’s County Planning Board transmitted correspondence with proposed legislation to advance the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (“Commission”) project of establishing a consolidated home in the form of a headquarters for the Prince George’s County Planning Board, Prince George’s County Planning Department, and Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation administrative offices through the acquisition of several properties in close proximity to the other County government agency office locations within the Largo Government Complex. Accordingly, the Commission seeks to acquire the properties located at 1601 McCormick Drive, 1616 McCormick Drive, and 1440 McCormick Drive, respectively, for purposes of founding a new administrative headquarters building. Included with the letter, and attached and incorporated as part of this Resolution, are several documents that explain the details of the project and its proposed plan for funding.
As such, and pursuant to Section 17-401 of the Land Use Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, prior approval of the County governing body to proceed with the acquisition or construction of an administration building for Commission. As reflected herein, this Resolution will approve the project in accordance with State law.
