Title

AN ACT CONCERNING THE REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL BIAS BAN OF 2023 for the purpose of establishing a ban on real estate appraisal bias in Prince George’s County.

 

Background

There is a concern that the real estate appraisal process is inherently biased in its assessment. As A result, for more a fair and equitable real estate assessment, the real estate appraiser shall now be prohibited from considering, as part of the real estate appraisal analysis of real property in Prince George’s County, the race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, actual or perceived sexual orientation, actual or perceived gender identity, age, actual or perceived marital status, disability, familial status, or national origin of either the prospective owners or occupants of the property, present owners or occupants of the property, or the present owners or occupants of the properties in the vicinity of the property, or on any other basis prohibited by federal, State, or local law.
